About Us

HOPE runs three schools in Durgapur and caters to the special needs of children and adults with all kinds of disability save and except the visually impaired.

There are well qualified and extremely efficient Special Educators, Physiotherapists, Occupational
Therapists and Sensory Therapists to impart education and training to our students. A lot of
emphasis is given to teaching the students ‘Activities in Daily Living’ apart from functional as well as normal academic activities.

We, at HOPE try to give an environment free from any competition so that the students can take the time they need to build their self-confidence and be self-reliant. Our curriculum is designed to nurture the creative potential in every student through a holistic approach.

Mrs. Mousumi Mukherjee

HOPE salutes Mrs. Mukherjee’s immense dedication, hard work and perseverance to build the foundation of HOPE as an Administrator and later as Secretary of the organization. HOPE could not have reached the current level if not for her untiring efforts and her empathy towards serving the differently able in the society. Sadly, we lost her in the year 2015.She continues to inspire all of us to work incessantly towards the progress and development of the organization.

We at HOPE believe that no disability should be a deterrent in a person’s life.

Our students are primarily children with Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Hearing Deficiency.

HOPE is committed to empowering disabled persons through care, counseling, and training to become self-reliant, and to live a dignified life in the mainstream society in a barrier-free environment.

HOPE is dedicated to care and includes persons with Autism, Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing Impairment, Multiple disabilities in mainstream society. In pursuit of these goals, HOPE will strive for prevalent changes in the mainstream activities of community life to enable persons with these disabilities to lead a life of Quality, Dignity, Equality, and Justice in the society free from Bias, prejudice, stigma, and discrimination.

Our Team

HOPE started with six children and two special educators in 1988 in a small rented building. It was inaugurated by Late Binoy Krisha Chowdhury (former minister of Land & Land Reforms, Govt of West Bengal) on 29th September 1998.

During its formative and later years, (Late) Mrs. Mousumi Mukherjee who was the Administrator, Principal and the Secretary guided the foundation with her untiring efforts and dedication. It is due to her efforts HOPE could achieve what it has today.

HOPE salutes her tenacity and willingness to work consistently for the betterment of the institution and in turn touch the lives of numerous disabled children and adults.

At present, HOPE has three centres in Durgapur.
